Just A Little Something was started in 1985 by Crystal Monson as a dollhouse and miniature shop in Rochester, Minnesota. It was a tiny shop with all the display cases hand built by Crystal's husband, Scott. In 1991, and two daughters (Alyssa and Katelyn) later, Crystal closed her retail miniature shop in 1990 and traveled to far away places like New York City and California to sell miniature food that she made. Her products were highly sought after and the miniature shows were fun but exhausting. In her spare time, Crystal taught herself to quilt more as a necessity than as a hobby. Always critical about color and quality, nothing would do but that she make her own quilts for the family beds. The rest, as the say, was fate.
As the girls, Alyssa and Katelyn, got older, the opportunity arose in 1996 to purchase an 1870's house that had been converted to office space. Crystal saw the potential in this building where no one else did. The building was purchased and converted into a retail quilt shop with the dollhouse miniatures on the side called Just A Little Something. Knitting supplies replaced the dollhouse miniatures in 2002.
The business thrived for 14 years with Crystal becoming known for her color selection and meticulous attention to detail in the kits created for the shop. Crystal decided to retire from the hustle and bustle of the retail business in 2009. She went back to making dollhouse miniatures, but this time, miniature handwoven baskets made from heavy thread. After taking nine years away from the quilting business, a new idea bloomed at Just A Little Something.
Thus, in 2018, Just A Little Something became an online quilting business specializing in hand selected and precut batik fabric kits.
